Notepad2 2.0.18 - Windows Notepad Replacement

Notepad2 2.0.18 (Windows, Open Source, 242KB) is a text editor with syntax highlighting, improving greatly the original Notepad shipped with Windows. Notepad2 follows the basic Notepad principle, keeping it small, fast, without frills, but it improves it greatly.

This program can be run out of the box without installation, and does not touch your system's registry. You can actually replace the stock Windows Notepad app with Notepad2:

• Download the binary files (zip version);
• Extract files to a folder;
• Find c:\windows\notepad.exe and c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe and set the owner to ‘Administrators’, and grant Administrators full control.
• Using Windows Explorer, drag and drop the renamed notepad2.exe to c:\windows and c:\windows\system32.
• Optional replace the permissions on the new notepad.exe to Read & Execute and Read.
