32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista Systems Compared

ExtremeTech compares the performance of two Vistas: Vista 32-bit versus Vista 64-bit.

Test System Specs:

  • Intel Core 2 E8500 CPU @ 3.16GHz processor
  • ASUS P5E3 Premium, Intel X48 Core Logic mainboard
  • 2 x 2GB Corsair TWINX DDR3-1600 XMS3 memory modules running at DDR3-1333 speeds
  • PNY Verto GeForce 8800 GT graphics card
  • 320GB Seagate 7200.10 HDD
  • Silverstone SST-ST75ZF 750W power supply

"The bottom line: 64-bit Vista is certainly viable from a performance perspective, but still has a ways to go. Now if we can get all the apps developers to think in 64-bit mode, maybe we'll get better performance all around. But don't forget to stock up on memory." [ExtremeTech]

I'm sure that 64-bit applications will become more popular in the future. I guess developers still concentrate on the 32-bit "world", mainly because that is where the bulk of users (value, mainstream) are situated in.
