Gizmo Project 1.3.0.143 (Windows, Freeware, 9.76 MB) [via FileHippo] uses your internet connection (broadband or dial-up) to make calls to other computers. With the click of a mouse, you're connected to friends, family, and colleagues anywhere on earth. It's just that simple. You talk clearly. For as long as you want. For free.
And with inexpensive add-ons like Call In and Call Out, you can talk to any telephone, mobile or landline on the planet.
Latest change:
- Fixed: When auto-upgrading from v131 to v142, instant messaging was broken.
As stated at the SIPphone site, the requirements are:
- Either a SIPphone adapter or download our free softphone.
- A broadband connection to the Internet
- To make free in-network (SIP to SIP) calls, both sides of the call must have a SIPphone adapter or softphone.
- To make super inexpensive calls to any of the billions of non-SIPphone (PSTN) world, you will need SIP minutes.
- To receive calls on your SIPphone from non-SIPphone (PSTN) phones, you need at least one Virtual Number
As time goes by, a number of Voice over IP services are gradually popping up. I really haven't tried any of these services (yet), but I believe that for VoIP to really take off, broadband connections should be easily and inexpensively accessible.
