Flock for Windows 0.5.13 Developer Preview (Windows, Open Source, 9.7 MB) [via FileForum] is a social Web browser, open source, cross platform and based on Mozilla technologies. Currently, the browser implements support for del.icio.us and Flickr. Users can also install alternative hosted bookmarks or photo sharing services. In the search box and the blog manager, Flock offer users a number of choices and the ability to install other services using open standards. Expect the same, over time, for hosted bookmarks, photo-sharing and other services Flock integrates. Flock is based on the open source Mozilla code base.
Also available for the Mac & Linux.
Latest changes:
- Photobucket support - In addition to Flickr, you may now choose to use Photobucket with the Photo Browser and Photo Uploader topbars.
- Unicode in Photo Uploader - Multibyte UTF-8 characters in the title, description, and tag fields were mangled on upload in 0.5.12; this has been corrected.
Notes on upgrading from previous Flock versions:
- If you have drafts of unpublished blog posts, be sure to back them up in a text editor before updating from 0.4.10.
- Since releasing Flock 0.4.10, we have moved the location of Flock settings (a.k.a. the profile directory) on Windows and Linux. This means that you will lose blog drafts, browser history, passwords, and other settings when you move to the new version of Flock.
- (Mac) To ensure that Flock 0.5.13 works properly, you should delete your old Flock profile before installing Flock 0.5.13.
If you like Firefox, and are interested or utilize social applications, you'll probably like Flock. Those already using previous versions of Flock would readily receive this update if the auto-update feature is enabled.
