avast! Home 4.6.731 (Windows, Freeware, 9.7MB) [via FileForum] is an antivirus set that is able to detect the presence of viruses in computers. It has a powerful antivirus kernal that has a boot-time scan, improved resident protection, heuristic analysis for email, and a script blocker. The program works great as a on-demand and/or resident virus scanner. The skinable interface is easy to use for any user.
What I like most about avast! is that it automatically updates its definition files frequently, and from my understanding, appends or adds definitions to its file instead of letting you re-download the whole updated definition file. This results in faster and painless "iAVS" updates. This scheme is also true for its program updates.
This is my favorite antivirus program, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a free but feature rich program for personal use.
